Why Reconnecting With Your Body and Nature Might Be the Most Radical Thing You Do This Year
I believe the thing we need most right now is something wonderfully simple and accessible. We're living through a chaotic, scary, and confusing time. And the best way I've found to stay grounded through it all is ecosomatics — the practice of staying deeply connected to our body and to the environment around us. At its core, ecosomatics is about reclaiming our belonging to the earth and finding our rightful position within the web of life.
What Ecosomatic Coaching Actually Is
Ecosomatic coaching isn't simply taking a coaching conversation outdoors. In this approach, nature isn't a backdrop — it's a co-facilitator in the process, and that includes your body, which is part of nature too. Alongside conversation, I bring in somatic practices and creative exercises that let insight and clarity emerge naturally and organically from the body, in connection with the natural world.
It's rooted in one core idea: we function better when we are connected — to our body, and to the web of life.
Four Reasons This Matters More Than Ever
- It regulates your nervous system. There's real physical and mental health value in strengthening our sense of connection to our body and to nature. Tapping into that state of connectedness helps regulate the nervous system — and right now, we simply cannot function well without that regulation.
- It shifts how we relate to the world. At its heart, ecosomatics invites us to see the body and the natural world as subjects we enter into relationship with, not objects to extract from. It sounds simple, but it's a genuinely radical shift — one that pushes back against a culture built on extraction and exploitation, of both our bodies and the planet.
- It opens the door to co-creation. Once that channel of connection is open, we become remarkably receptive to insight, ideas, and solutions. John Young says that "Creativity is the immune system of the earth" — when we're connected, the earth speaks through us. This idea echoes Paul Hawken's book Blessed Unrest, which documented hundreds of thousands of grassroots projects springing up around the world, all addressing similar issues, all born from deep nature connection. Young suggests this isn't coincidence — it's as if Gaia herself is activating the human creative spirit, the way a body activates antibodies in response to illness.
I experience this constantly. Nature opens up space inside me, and ideas start to flow without effort — as if my system is simply responding to a conversation, and the ideas themselves are coming from a much bigger intelligence. Last summer I was stuck on a project I was developing. I deepened my nature connection practice, and almost immediately I received not just ideas, but a concrete, practical blueprint for completing it. It became Grounded Vision. This summer, feeling stressed and overwhelmed, the exact same thing happened again and Earth Circles were born.
4. It's especially powerful for artists and creatives (which is all of us). Art is a connector — to ourselves, to our higher self, to the universe, to nature. Artists are uniquely positioned to be agents of connection. And crucially, this kind of connected creativity is an antidote to burnout: it reminds us we don't have to do everything alone. We can co-create, in collaboration with nature, and simply let life flow through us.
You Already Have These Skills
Here's the good news: this isn't something you need to learn from scratch. Connection to our body and to nature is part of our DNA — we're born with it. We just need to remember how to access it again, because we live in a world that constantly pulls us away from that memory.
I won't go into the full practice here, but you can start with something as simple as a short morning routine: tuning into your body, then gradually expanding that awareness outward into the natural world around you, and closing with a small creative act.
If you'd like the full step-by-step version, I've put together a free PDF with a slow morning routine you can build into your daily practice. You can request it here
Work With Me
If you're based near Bologna, Italy, I run in-person sessions out in nature, and I regularly organise events in the beautiful Appennino mountains — there's nothing quite like doing this work with your feet actually on the ground.
If you're further afield, I also work online, and I have several upcoming events and programs designed to help you deepen this practice. One I'm especially excited about is Grounded Vision — a wonderful way to explore ecosomatics, built around a foundation program that helps you develop your own ecosomatic skills from the ground up.
Wherever you are, I'd love to help you reconnect — with your body, with nature, and with your rightful place in the web of life.
Stay connected.
